The Abbey Hall Centre on Rock Road was built as a British School in 1853. It now houses St. Bede's Chapel on the top floor, and has in the past been a Synagogue, and has also been home to the Unitarians and Plymouth Brethren. SX 9169 6389. © Paul E. Barnett (2016).

The former Holy Trinity Church (1891) on Meadowfoot Road. SX 9216 6344. © Alan Blacklock. Another view, © Paul E. Barnett (2014), who advises that it is now in use as a "soft play" centre. A very churchy-looking memorial hall (1913) stands opposite - this was the church before the current Holy Trinity was built. © Paul E. Barnett (2014).

The site of the first Methodist Church in Torquay on Fleet Street. A blue plaque gives a little history. SX 9172 6377. Both © Andrew Ross.

Methodist Central Church on Tor Hill Road. SX 9117 6430. © Andrew Ross. Link, which says it is Methodist and U.R.C. The history page dates it to 1976, and includes photos of its three predecessors - Union Street (Wesleyan) Methodist, Market Street (Primitive) Methodist, and Belgrave Congregational/U.R.C.

The cemetery which stands between Barton Road and Hele Road has two Mortuary Chapels. Older large scale O.S. maps label them as Church of England, at SX 9060 6603, and Nonconformist at SX 9052 6594. Both © Chris Kippin (2023).

The former St. Andrew's Monastery on Torwood Gardens Road, now converted into flats. This was originally St. Andrew (Scottish Presbyterian). Marked but not labelled on a map of 1906 on Starpitten Lane West is a now-former Chapel, identified here as Wesleyan Methodist. It's blurred out on Streetview, but there is a photo on Geograph. SX 9129 6694.

Barnett (2018). Another view, and the date-stone, both © Chris Kippin (2023).

Our Lady, Help of Christians and St. Denis (R.C.) on Priory Road. SX 9191 6588. © Chris Kippin (2023). Link. Grade I listed.

St. Mary the Virgin, between Church Road and Fore Street. Betjeman implies that the tower was destroyed by bombing in WWII, and the subsequent re-build was a great improvement. In fact the tower was the only bit to survive. Another view. SX 9186 6598. Both © Chris Kippin (2023). An old postcard view.  Although undated, the postcard must pre-date the war. From an old postcard in Steve Bulman's Collection. Link. Grade II listed, which says the tower is of 1877, the rest of the church re-built in 1952-6 following war damage.
