The Churches of Britain and Ireland

Marlow, Buckinghamshire

Marlow on Wikipedia.

All Saints on High Street. Interior view, and the East Window. SU 8514 8617. All © John Balaam (2012). Link. Grade II* listed. The churchyard wall and gate has a separate grade II listing.

The Baptist Church on Glade Road, as seen by Streetview in 2021. SU 8540 8662. Link. The history page dates it to 1884, though the frontage had to be re-built in 1931/2, and there's a photo showing the church as it was before then. It also mentions a predecessor of 1855 on Dean Street, but it isn't shown on a map of 1882.

Christ Church U.R.C. on Oxford Road, as seen by Streetview in 2015. Older large scale O.S. maps label it as Salem Chapel (Congl.). SU 8565 8654. Link. Grade II listed.

The former Holy Trinity Church (2017 Streetview) on Wethered Road is dated here (where there is an interior photo) to 1852-1975. SU 8486 8695. Grade II listed.

The Methodist Church is on Spittal Street. It was seen from Dukes Place by Streetview in 2018. Originally Wesleyan, it's dated here (where there is a better photo) to 1900, and it also mentions an earlier predecessor on the same site. SU 8484 8671. Link.

A map of 1882 shows a Primitive Methodist Chapel set back from Chapel Street at SU 8504 8677. Maps show that it had gone out of use by 1961, but the building survives, and was seen by Streetview in 2018. The same map shows another Primitive Methodist Chapel on Cambridge Road, somewhere near its junction with York Road, but it isn't clear which building is intended. I can't seen any buildings in the area on Streetview to suggest that it has survived. The My Primitive Methodists website has an entry for a P.M. Chapel in Marlow, but it isn't clear which of these two chapels is meant.

Newfield Community Church meets at Newfield Place, a school building on Newfield Road. The Streetview van caught a distant view of the school buildings in 2021. Link.

St. Peter (R.C.) on St. Peter Street. Its grade II listing dates it to 1846, by Pugin. SU 8520 8635. © John Balaam (2012). Link. The lych-gate is listed as grade II.
