Churches at West Caister.

Holy Trinity on Norwich Road and Ormesby Road, as seen by Streetview in 2024. TG 5199 1227. Link. Grade II* listed.

The Methodist Church off Beach Road. Older maps label it as Wesleyan. TG 5258 1210. © Geoff Watt. Link. In 2026 A.I. dates it to 1886, the congregation having previously met in a building on High Street, and at West Caister.

The 25" O.S. map of 1906 labels a building set well back from Beach Road behind another building as Mission Hall (Plym. Breth.). Its site now lies beneath a later access road, seen by Streetview in 2022. TG 5252 1203.

The cemetery on Ormesby Road has a small building, labelled as Mortuary, on a map of 1906. It survives, and was seen by Streetview in 2024. TG 5206 1224.

The confusingly named Great Yarmouth Cemetery, north of Caister, has a Mortuary Chapel, dated in its grade II listing to 1902. Rather grander that is usual in a mortuary chapel, it was seen (distantly) by Streetview in 2024. TG 5186 1261.

A Primitive Methodist Chapel is shown on old maps on Yarmouth Road at TG 5239 1172. Built before 1884, it seems to have still been in active use in 1946 (when labelled as Meth. Ch.), but it has since been demolished. This source dates it to 1865 with demolition circa 2000. A photo of it can be seen here, and its site today on a Streetview from 2019.

Toc H Hall, © Alan Taylor. According to this Facebook page, the building was demolished and replaced by a seating area in 1999. The site (seen here in a Streetview from 2024) is on Tan Lane.

West Caister
St. Edmund, as seen by Streetview in 2024. It's dated in its grade II listing to 1854. TG 5088 1173. Link1. Link2. The scant remains of an earlier St. Edmund stand forlornly behind the new. TG 5087 1177. Link includes photos. Grade II listed.
There used to be a Wesleyan Methodist Chapel, on Chapel Lane, at TG 5134 1173. Pre-dating a map of 1884 (where it's labelled as Wesleyan Reform), it was the predecessor of the present Methodist Church on Beach Road (see above), and maps show it to have gone out of use by 1926. A house now occupies the site, the central portion (gable end towards the camera) being exactly over the chapel site - 2024 Streetview.
