Grace Independent Baptist Church w
as, according to PoWiS, a congregation meeting in the Institute Hall on Avenue Street between 2000 and 2013. The map in the entry points to a building (2024 Streetview) at NS 4197 4598.

John Knox Parish Church (1841, CoS) on Main Street. NS 4205 4596. © Howard Richter (2014). Category B listed. PoWiS - like so many Scottish churches, it has a history of denominational changes. Built in 1841-2 as Church of Scotland, it separated as part of the schism of 1843 and became a Free Church. In 1900 it became known as John Knox Free Church, before re-joining the Church of Scotland in 1929.

Our Lady and St. John (R.C.)  north of Lainshaw Street at NS 4172 4566. One on-line resource says it was built in 1974, which contradicts the O.S. map of 1957, which shows "Our Lady and St. John RC Church" on the same site - although possibly the 1974 date refers to a re-build. © Howard Richter (2014). PoWiS also dates it to 1974, without mentioning an earlier church building.

Potter's Trust Christian Fellowship used to meet in the Scout Hall off Corsehillbank Street - on or about 2001 (PoWiS). It seems to be the building immediately behind the tennis court seen here in a Streetview from 2024. Another PoWiS entry says they later moved to Stewarton Area Centre (2024 Streetview) off Avenue Street.

St. Columba (CoS) on Lainshaw Street. Built in 1696 (date-stone), probably on the site of an earlier church, it was originally known as Laigh Kirk. It had a change of name when the church joined with the congregation of the Cairns United Free Church in 1962. Three additional views - 1, 2, 3. NS 4189 4568. All © Howard Richter (2014). Link. Some history here. Category B listed. PoWiS.

The site (the smaller house in the terrace, towards the right of the photo) of the demolished United Presbyterian Church on Main Street. Maps reveal the following history - 1857 and 1896 "U.P. Church", 1910 "U.F. Ch.", and 1964, "U.F. Church"- Cairns United Free Church. NS 4214 4604. © Howard Richter (2014). Its PoWiS entry says it possibly stood on the site of a predecessor. It dates the later church to 1825-7, and "demolished sometime after 1962".

U.R.C. (formerly Congregational) on Avenue Street and New Street. NS 4189 4606. © Howard Richter (2014). PoWiS dates it to 1828-9, closing in 2015, then the congregation transferred to an un-located funeral parlour for 2½ years, then on to a former bank on Lainshaw Street in 2018 - seen by Streetview in 2024.
