Bell Street United Church (Methodist and U.R.C.) on Bell Street and Parsons Pool is a former Methodist Church. It's labelled on an old large scale O.S. map as Methodist Chapel (Wesleyan) on Site of St. Laurence's Ch. 2023 Streetview. ST 8629 2307. Link.

The former Congregational Chapel (2023 Streetview) on Muston's Lane. ST 8639 2306. Grade II listed - dates it to 1858. It shows as still active on a map of 1959. The churchyard walls and railings also have a grade II listing.

A map of 1901 shows Ebenezer Hall on Salisbury Street at ST 8664 2281. This source says it was Open Brethren, and dates it to 1886. It stood where the access road is in a Streetview from 2023. The church tower at left belongs to the Catholic Church.

The former Holy Trinity on Bimport. ST 8614 2298. From an old postcard in Geoff Watt's Collection. Another postcard view, from Reg Dosell's Collection. Grade II listed - wherein it's dated to 1841-2, by G.G. Scott, on an older site. It was made redundant in 1977. The churchyard wall is also listed as grade II.

Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, on Longmead, taken on a very wet day. ST 8667 2345. © Paul E. Barnett (2024). Streetview provides a rain-free view, from 2018.

There used to be a Primitive Methodist Chapel on St. James's Street at ST 8609 2269. The housing on the site today was seen by Streetview in 2023. Does anything survive of the chapel? This source suggests that the chapel may have earlier been a school earlier, and that it had gone out of use as a chapel by 1929.

St. James on St. James Street. ST 8580 2240. From an old postcard in Reg Dosell's Collection. Another view, © Martin Richter (2012). Link. Grade II listed - dates it to 1866-7. For the listed churchyard wall, and war memorial, see here.

Some O.S. maps mark St. John's Church (Site of) on St. John's Hill, within a graveyard, at ST 8580 2268. Nothing useful can be seen on Streetview because of vegetation. It's a scheduled monument, and its listing says it's an ancient site, pre-conquest, and was St. John the Baptist. The Comments and Photos page includes a photo of an ancient yew tree in the old churchyard.

St. Peter on High Street. ST 8629 2295. © Barbara Barklem. An old postcard view, from Reg Dosell's Collection. Another view, and interior view, both © Martin Richter (2012). Link. Grade II* listed.

The former St. Rumbold on Salisbury Road, as seen by Streetview in 2017. ST 8675 2273  It's now Shaftesbury School Chapel Arts Centre. An old postcard view (which calls it Cann Church, from the parish), from Reg Dosell's Collection, and thanks to Kevin Price for providing the dedication and current usage. Link. Grade II listed - dates it to 1839-40, on a medieval site, redundant in 1971.

Society of Friends Meeting House on Abbey Walk, as seen by Streetview in 2009. ST 8603 2267. Link.

The Holy Name and St Edward the Martyr Church (R.C.) on Salisbury Road - 2023 Streetview. It's dated here to 1910. ST 8666 2280. Link.

Enmore Green
A map of 1901 shows a Mission Hall on Well Lane at ST 8577 2333. It was still shown as active on a map revised in 1938. None of the available maps show which building the label is intended to apply to, but I think it was a now-demolished building to the right of the house shown in a Streetview from 2023.

A former Primitive Methodist Chapel survives on Breach Lane, at ST  8571 2302. This source says it was opened in 1868, and was closed in the 1980's. 2023 Streetview.
St. John the Evangelist (1843) sits in an idyllic position on the slopes of Shaftesbury's ancient hill fort. ST 8547 2315. © Roger Hopkins. Link. Grade II listed - includes interior photos here.
