The Churches of Britain and Ireland

Lockerbie, Dumfries & Galloway

Lockerbie on Wikipedia.

All Saints (Episcopal) on Ashgrove Terrace, of 1901-3 (source), as seen by Streetview in 2021. NY 1337 8182.

Dryfesdale Church of Scotland on Townhead Street, as seen by Streetview in 2021. An undated (but presumably recent) sale notice was available on-line in 2025. It has several interior photos. NY 1356 8185. Link. Category B listed - dates it to 1898. According to this source, it had a predecessor on the same site of 1757.

Ebenezer Hall (Brethren) on Park Place and Bridge Street, as seen by Streetview in 2021, from Bridge Street, and in 2009, from Park Place. Link saya that the congregation came here "by 1957", having previously met in the Masonic Lodge on Mains Street (2021 Streetview), and before that in a property on Wardhaugh's Close, which I haven't been able to locate.

A former Free Church (later St. Cuthbert's CoS) stands on Bridge Street (2021 Streetview). Dated here to 1872, on the site of a predecessor of 1843, it closed in or after 1981. NY 1387 8166.

Holy Trinity (R.C.) on Arthur's Place and High Street, as seen by Streetview in 2021. According to this source, the first church on the site was a Session Antiburgher Church of 1811, followed in 1874-5 by the second church - Lockerbie United Presbyterian Church - which eventually became Trinity CoS, before being sold to the Catholics in 1973, or soon thereafter. NY 1360 8150. The preceding catholic church, St. Mungo, was on a different site, on Sydney Place and Cruden Terrace, at NY 1392 8177. It's dated here to 1898 (an iron church), closing in 1973. The house on its site is called St. Mungo's, and was seen by Streetview in 2021. Link.

O.S. maps mark, a little way N.W. of the town, Chapel (Site of) at NY 1297 8244. It's identified here as St. Mary, possibly belonging to the Knight's Templar. Nothing remains to be seen - indeed the site marked by the O.S. now lies beneath the A74(M). In a 2023 Streetview, the chapel would have stood directly in front of the camera, in the middle of the road.
