The Methodist Church stands on Chapel Lane, on the site of the Sunday School (SE 4174 3032) of its predecessor (Wesleyan) chapel which stood across the street at SE 4176 3030. David has seen a reference to it in 1848. Housing now occupies its site. Both © David Regan (2024). Link.

The site of the demolished Primitive Methodist Chapel on Well Lane and Church Lane. Pre-dating a map of 1892, it survived in active use (presumably as Methodist) into the second half of the last century. Old photos of it can be seen here (numbers 14 and 15), where it says that it was closed in 1961 and demolished in 1969. SE 4155 3027. © David Regan (2024). This is presumably the chapel referred to here. A map of 1850 shows a curious entry - Primitive Methodist Chapel (Wesleyan) - on Peasefold, at SE 4190 3021. The building on its site in 2023 was seen by Streetview.

All available older on-line maps show a Chapel off High Street at SE 4176 3018. David suspects it was a United Methodist Chapel, and an old photo of it can be seen here (number 2, left hand side). Its site (at left) now lies beneath the Boots pharmacy. © David Regan (2024).
