The Churches of Britain and Ireland
Bromyard, Herefordshire
The Chapel Gallery on Sherford Street is a former Congregational Chapel, dated in its grade II listing to the early 19th century. In 2009 it was in a sorry state, much improved by 2024 (both Streetviews). The Methodist Church is on New Road, seen by Streetview in 2024 - the date-stone is for 1857, as Wesleyan. SO 6530 5462. Link. A Mission Hall is shown on Kirkham Garden on maps from the early 20th century. It has been replaced by housing (2024 Streetview). SO 6538 5488. A converted Primitive Methodist Chapel (2024 Streetview) stands on Pump Street and what used to be Victoria Terrace (now the town by-pass). It's dated 1899. This source says it had closed by 1975. SO 6547 5451. St. Joseph (R.C.) is on Old Road at SO 6529 5468, and was seen by Streetview in 2024. The history page of the church website dates it to 1956,and also mentions its predecessor of 1913 on Frog Lane. This stood at circa SO 6556 5444, somewhere among the housing seen by Streetview in 2009. St. Peter. Interior view. SO 6553 5484. Both © Aidan McRae Thomson. The fine south doorway has a carved stone above, which the grade I listing says may be Anglo-Saxon, and also dates the font to the 12th century. Both © Steve Bulman (2025). Link. While revising this entry, it became apparent that the inclusion of St. Stephen in Bromyard is incorrect. Can you advise where this church really is located? Interior view, both © Graeme Harvey (2011).
