The Churches of Britain and Ireland

Auchinleck, East Ayrshire

Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses (2009) on Main Street. Another view. There was a previous Kingdom Hall on the same plot of land, which had been converted from terraced housing, and demolished following a fire. A photo is available here. Comparison with this Streetview, it can be seen that the replacement building is set much further back than the original houses. NS 5516 2175. The Mission Hall (1901) on Park Road is currently the meeting place for Auchinleck Christian Fellowship. Another view. According to this link it was built as a Gospel Hall for the Plymouth Brethren, but as Howard points out, OS maps never show it as Gospel Hall, only ever Mission Hall. Can you confirm that the Brethren association is correct? NS 5506 2185. © Howard Richter (2014). Link.

The former Original Secession Church is much hemmed in by other buildings. It is named as such on a map of 1857-1887 vintage. Streetview suggests that it is (or has been) in commercial use. Howard believes that this may previously have been an Associate Synod church, mentioned in a book of 1846. NS 5520 2165. © Howard Richter (2014).

Our Lady of Lourdes and St. Patrick (R.C., 1963) on Sorn Road. NS 5505 2251. © Howard Richter (2014). Link1. Link2.

The former Parish Kirk (1683) which was succeeded by the present church in 1843. Even at this date, the church was already roofless, but it was repaired by 1978, after which it served as the Boswell Museum (now closed). Two additional views - 1, 2. NS 5514 2153. All © Howard Richter (2014). Link, which speculates that it might also be the site of an earlier parish church, whose first documentary mention is in 1238. Video tour.

The former Peden Church of Scotland (1951-1983) on Back Rogerton Crescent. NS 5546 2214. © Howard Richter (2014). Link.
